Pilgrimage Photos
The concept that unifies my photo series is Family. Everything in the photos represent one of my family members. These are some of the things that they use or cherish most, among other things that may just represent their personalities. The photos are all visually unified because of the camera angles and simplistic backgrounds and even spacing. The three strongest images in this series are the first, second, and fourth photos. These photos best illustrate my concept because they have the most valuable possessions in them. They are also more neatly arranged. Other than the camera angles, a strength about these photos would be the pattern in which they are arranged. While shooting these photographs, I strongly considered bright lighting to aid in creating a very basic background for each, to clearly portray someone's prized possessions.
Photography Ideas- Sam Kaplan
Sam Kaplan is a still-life photographer from New York City. I like the way he sets up each photo because it reminds me of my photo series. I also like his use of color and light. My favorite photo is the one of the lightbulbs. I enjoy the arrangement of the lights and how one lightbulb is different from the rest of them. This is also the only lightbulb that is on in the picture. In all three of these photos I like his use of repetition with the bulbs, faces and candy pieces.
